Calm Authority in Your Classroom: A Teacher's Guide to Leading with Confidence and Care from Day One

I am pleased to share that my forthcoming book, Calm Authority in Your Classroom, is scheduled for release in late summer 2027 by Eye on Education, an imprint of Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group.

Written for new, second-career, and developing teachers, the book offers practical guidance for building classroom confidence, exercising sound professional judgment, and establishing the kind of calm authority that allows both teachers and students to thrive.

Drawing on my experiences as a veteran classroom teacher, former attorney, 2016 Georgia Teacher of the Year, and teacher leader, the book explores how educators can lead with confidence without intimidation, establish clear expectations while building meaningful relationships, and respond thoughtfully to the everyday challenges of teaching.

At its heart, Calm Authority in Your Classroom is about recognizing that effective teaching is not simply a matter of managing behavior or delivering instruction. It is about creating a classroom environment grounded in trust, consistency, respect, and care.

The book is particularly relevant for teacher candidates, new and second-career teachers, alternative-certification programs, teacher induction and mentoring programs, colleges of education, and school leaders committed to supporting early-career educators.
